Canada immigration has to level up its newcomer intake, says Sean Fraser

Canada is ready to increase immigration levels - Sean Fraser, Canada's Immigration Minister

Canada is ready to increase immigration levels - Sean Fraser, Canada's Immigration Minister

Canada’s ambitions for Canada immigration are only increasing by the day! The Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, has put forward the reason for the need to increase the levels of immigrant intake in Canada. He finds it necessary to increase Canada immigration levels because that’s the only way to fill up the increasing gaps in the Canada labor market.

Canada is facing a critical scarcity of skilled professionals currently. The country is looking to rebound into the pre-pandemic state. This will be possible with the contribution of skilled immigrants who work in Canada. Sean Fraser is anticipating that the only way for Canada immigration intake is to go up. Only that way Canada can stand its ground and go ahead with economic development.

In October 2021, 46,315 new Canada PR visa holders have arrived in Canada. In fact, most of the new permanent residents of Canada have transitioned from temporary residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. This happened due to the IRCC policy to conduct immigration draws inviting only those potential candidates studying/working in Canada on a temporary visa. This kept Canada immigration on track throughout the pandemic. It served well in the attempts to achieve the 401,000 newcomers target for 2021.

Canada has welcomed 313,838 newcomers in the period between January 2021 and October 2021. With hardly 2 months left to meet its immigration level target for 2021, Canada will have to increase immigrant intake, as Sean Fraser has stated.

There’s a lot of effort put into speeding up the processing of visa applications. From what’s apparent in the way Canada immigration operations are going, there’s definitely hope that all those waiting to move to Canada and the families ready to start a new life in Canada will find success sooner.

If you are already aware of Canada immigration levels plan 2020-2023, you know that Canada is determined to achieve ambitious targets like 401,000 new immigrants in 2021. In 2022, this target will increase to 411,000 and 421,000 in 2023.

Despite the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has done a great job with regard to its immigration. This is apparent from the fact that Canada welcomed 46,315 new immigrants to the country. The country is already aiming for more!

In 2021, as yet, Canada has had 313,700 immigrants. A large chunk of these newcomers consisted of those who were present in the country already on temporary visas.

In the months between January and October 2021, there was an average influx of 31,370 newcomers per month. This average is unprecedently high when compared to recent years.

Canada’s ambitious immigration target for the year 2021 can be achieved with 43,650 new immigrants per month in November and December.

Pulling off the current level of success in Canada immigration was a feat the country managed after taking the following steps:

  • A huge immigration draw was conducted in February 2021 in which 27,332 invitations were issued to CEC candidates. 90% of these candidates were TFWs engaged in work in Canada.
  • A new TR to PR pathway for Canada immigration was opened via which, 90,000 additional immigrants were aimed for. These included international students, healthcare workers, and other essential workers, all present in Canada on a temporary basis.

Individuals wishing to migrate to Canada are aware that Canada follows a points-based system which helps to determine the points required to get a Canada permanent residency in 2022.

FSW points system to determine eligibility

The FSW points system is part of the Federal Skilled Worker Program, or FSWP, which is one of Canada Express Entry’s immigration programs. The FSWP is a popular immigration scheme among employees who want to immigrate to Canada on a permanent residency visa. This program does not require previous work experience in Canada or a job offer from a Canadian employer.

In order to enter the Express Entry program, you must meet the eligibility requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker program. If you have the eligibility points, you can enter the Express Entry pool. A candidate’s eligibility is determined using a points grid known as the FSW points.

You must have a minimum score of 67 points out of 100 in the FSW points grid. You will be given points under the following criteria:

Age Maximum 12 points Those between 18-35 years get maximum points. Those above 35 get lesser points while the maximum age to qualify is 45 years.

Education Maximum 25 points Applicant’s educational qualification must be equal to higher secondary education under Canadian standards.

Language Proficiency Maximum 28 points (English and/or French) Applicants must have at least 6 bands in IELTS. They get extra points if proficient in French.

Work Experience Work Experience

Maximum 15 points

For minimum points applicants should have at least one-year of full-time work experience. More years of work experience means more points.

Adaptability Maximum of 10 points If the spouse or common law partner of the applicant is willing to migrate to Canada, he is entitled to 10 extra points for adaptability.

Arranged employment Additional 10 points (not mandatory). A maximum of 10 points if applicants have a valid offer from a Canadian employer.

Using the Canada points calculator, you can know whether you are eligible to apply for the FSWP which is part of the Express Entry program.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

Another important aspect which determines the points required to migrate to Canada is the Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS.

The CRS is a point-based system for scoring and evaluating immigrants. The immigrants in the Express Entry pool are assigned a score based on the CRS. A CRS score of 1200 points is assigned to immigration hopefuls who submit their profiles to the Express Entry pool. The Express Entry draw takes place on a regular basis, with each draw having a different CRS score. Those who meet the CRS score requirements for that draw will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a PR visa. If you have a high CRS score, your chances of being selected for the draw increases.

The assessment factors for the CRS score include:

  • Skills
  • Education
  • Language ability
  • Work experience
  • Other factors

The average score of all candidates in the Express Entry draw pooI determines the CRS score for a particular draw. The average CRS score of applicants in the pool is directly proportional to the CRS score. The higher the average, the higher is the CRS score. So, having the highest score is critical if you want to receive an ITA from the Express Entry draw.

If you don’t meet the required CRS score, you’ll need to figure out how to raise your score.  Here are the factors that determine your CRS score.

  • Age: You can score the maximum points if you are between 18-35 years. Those above or below
  • this age will gain lesser points.
  • Education: Your minimum educational qualification must be equal to the higher secondary education level in Canada. Higher level of educational qualification means more points.
  • Work experience: To score the minimum points you should have at least one year of work experience. If you have more years of work experience you will gain more points. Canadian work experience also gives you more points
  • Language ability: You must have at least 6 bands in your IELTS equivalent to CLB 7 to be eligible to apply and score the minimum points. Higher scores mean more points.
  • Adaptability: You can score ten points on the adaptability factor if your family members or close relatives are living in Canada and will be able to support you when you move in there. You can also gain points if your spouse or legal partner is ready to migrate with you to Canada.

Human capital and spouse common law partner factors: You can score a maximum of 500 points under both these factors. Your human capital score will be calculated based on the criteria mentioned above.

Regarding the points you can score under the spouse/common law partner factor, you can score a maximum of 500 points if your spouse/common-law partner is not coming with you to Canada.  You can score a maximum of 460 points if your spouse is coming with you to Canada.

Human capital factor Accompanied by spouse/common law partner Not accompanied by spouse/common law partner
Age 100 110
Educational Qualification 140 150
Language proficiency 150 160
Canadian work experience 70 80

Skill Transferability: You can gain a maximum of 100 points under this category. The three important factors considered under Skill Transferability include:

Education: A high-level of language proficiency and a post-secondary degree or Canadian work experience combined with a post-secondary degree can give you 50 points.

Work Experience: Foreign work experience combined with high-level language proficiency or Canadian work experience with foreign work experience will give you 50 points.

Canadian qualification: A certificate of qualification with a high level of language proficiency will give you 50 points.

Education Maximum Points
Language Skills (English/French) + Education 50
Canadian Work Experience + Education 50
Foreign Work Experience Maximum Points
Language Skills (English/French) + Foreign Work Experience 50
Foreign Work Experience + Canadian Work Experience 50
Certificate of Qualification (Trades) Maximum Points
Language Skills (English/French) + Education Certificate 50

Additional points: It is possible to gain a maximum of 600 points based on various factors. Here is a breakdown of the points for the various factors.

Factor Maximum points
Sibling in Canada who is a citizen or PR visa holder 15
French language proficiency 30
Post-secondary education in Canada 30

CRS outlook for 2022

According to the Canadian government, the government has set a target of 390,000 immigrants for 2022. The majority of these immigrants (58 percent) are expected to enter Canada through the Express Entry program.

If you plan to apply for permanent residency through the Express Entry program in 2022, having a high CRS score will help you.

The points required to migrate to Canada in 2022 are determined by two factors, one is the eligibility requirement which is 65 points and the other is the CRS score which is a variable component and depends on the score your profile will earn for you.

Migrate to Finland- a top European nation

Migrate to Finland

Migrate to Finland

Finland is a breathtaking natural wonderland. Whether you are looking to relocate for a new job or simply want a beautiful environment for your family, Finland is a fantastic option.

Helsinki, the capital, is the most popular destination for expats, as it offers a wide range of professional and recreational options.

The city provides numerous work options, vast open spaces, and convenient access to much of Finland’s natural splendor.

Residents of the country can take use of universal healthcare and a well-functioning public education system.

If you wish to migrate to Finland, you must apply for a residence permit.

Application for residence permit

The application for residence permit will vary based on whether you wish to work, study or join a family member in Finland.

Residence permit for working in Finland

  • Residence permit for self-employment: This permit can be given to individuals within a company, including private businessmen, associates, and cooperative leaders. Before this permit can be granted has to be registered with the Trade Register at the National Patent and Registration Board.
  • Residence permit for an employed person: This visa is the most common type of work visa. There are three types of visas in this category-
  • Continuous (A), Temporary (B), and Permanent (P). Employees who are seeking residency for the first time in Finland will apply for a Temporary Permit.
  • A temporary residency permit is issued as a fixed-term (B) or continuous residence permit, depending on the duration of the stay. The first permit is usually given for one year, unless you apply explicitly for a shorter validity period. Ongoing residence permits may be extended at a time for a maximum of three years.
  • Residence permit for self-employment: This permit can be given to individuals within a company, including private businessmen, associates, and cooperative leaders. Before this permit can be granted has to be registered with the Trade Register at the National Patent and Registration Board.

Residence permit for studying in Finland

A Finland student residence permit is given to a foreign student who wishes to stay and study in Finland for more than three months or ninety days. In general, a student residence permit for Finland is granted for 1 year at a time.

The studies must lead to a bachelor’s degree or a vocational certificate.

For the duration of the course, students holding a residence permit are allowed to bring their spouse and children to Finland. They would have to apply for a visa separately to enter the country.

In Finland, you are responsible for your own financial well-being. In Finland, finding job as a student is challenging. Before you arrive to Finland, make sure you have enough money to cover your expenses for the duration of your study.

As a student you will be responsible for your own medical expenses as a student. For your residency permit, you will require private insurance to cover your medical expenses.

Residence permit to join family members

A person living in Finland can bring his family members to Finland and is called the sponsor. He must first have a residence permit before bringing in family members or can apply for their residence permits when making an application for himself.

Family members include spouse or registered partner and children under 18 years of age.

Resumes that lead you to work in Canada – How to write them

How to write an impressive Canadian resume

How to write an impressive Canadian resume

Let’s look at some very useful tips on writing a resume when you want to grab an opportunity to work in Canada. We trust you already are abreast with the job market in Canada and you know which companies are best suited for your professional skills and experience.

Here we will discuss the tips as Dos and Don’ts. First, let’s check out the common mistakes in resume writing that you must avoid.

The Don’ts

  • Unless you are an actor or model, you are not required to include your photo on your resume.
  • Don’t share personal information like age, race, country of origin, marital status, religion, and similar details in which employers are not interested. Just give your name and contact details.
  • Don’t write a lengthy resume. Keep it to max 2 pages while 1 page will be the best. What the employer is looking for in your resume is your best, recent, and most relevant work experience. Keep your resume short by sticking to such important and relevant information only.
  • Don’t include references in the resume. You could furnish references once you have an interview with your potential employer as required by them.
  • Don’t give a fancy email in the resume for communication. Let your email be an appropriate one containing your name. Don’t give your potential employer a reason to dump your resume at the first glance by giving emails like hotguysandy@email.com.

Now, let’s look at some things we recommend you do to make your resume work the best.

The Do’s

  • Write a resume specific to the post you are applying for. Refrain from the habit of sending generic resumes to every job opportunity you come across.
  • Use numbers to demonstrate what you achieved and how your work made a difference. Quantify your achievements in numbers and percentages.
  • Write your resume in the third person and give information in short and clear sentences without errors in spelling or grammar.
  • It’s worth it to include work experience that did not pay you. If you have done some volunteering, mention that in the resume. It will still mean that you are active and resourceful.
  • Include a cover letter. The cover letter can be written in the first person and you must attempt to connect with the recruiter. It should say who you are and the reason for you to choose to apply for the particular job. Tell them how you being a part of the company can solve their problems and make the establishment a better one.

We saved the best tip till now. Build a network in Canada involving friends, relatives, and industry networking bodies. Get updates on job opportunities and best practices from these parties who have first-hand experience in matters related to the job market. Take part in industry networking events through websites and social media and get a footing in Canada. This will help you to be more confident and look more willing to work in Canada for real.

Also, don’t hesitate to apply for a job for which you seem to be underqualified. If you could convince the recruiter that you are ready to learn on the job and improve yourself, you could have a good chance of being selected.

Know your eligibility for Canada immigration. Use the Canada points calculator.

France Immigration

France Immigration

For thousands of expats, France has become an increasingly popular destination. This lovely country has a lot to offer, such as spectacular scenery, an assortment of culinary pleasures, and a slower pace of life. The vast countryside, beautiful coastal towns, and vibrant cities make it worth migrating to France.

While migrating to France is easy for EU residents, non-EU residents have to go through the immigration system to come to France.

Visa options

The French immigration system is simple and inexpensive for potential migrants looking to start a new life in France. There are visa options based on your purpose of moving to France:

For employment

French Salaried Employees Visa: This visa is for people who want to work in France for a year or less. The employee must present a work contract that has been approved by the DIRECCTE (Direction régionale des entreprises, de la concurrence et de la consommation, du travail et de l’emploi).

French Work Visa for Professionals and independent workers: Doctors, lawyers, architects, bailiffs, notaries, judicial administrators, and insurance general agents are among the professions that require authorization from the relevant professional body. If you work in one of these fields, be sure you have the necessary permits before applying for a visa.

French International Organization work visa: This visa is for individuals working with an international organization who have to go on an official assignment to France.

For studies

Foreign students who come to France to study can apply for the France study visa once they are selected for a program at a French institution.

For joining family members

A vie privée et familiale (VPF) residence permit is available to non-EU/EEA persons who have a spouse or child who is a French citizen or who has a French residence visa. If you have a VPF residence permit, you need not apply for a separate work permit.

Benefits for international workers

If you work as an immigrant and stay in France for more than three months, you will be entitled for social security benefits. You or your employer can apply for a social security number, which will allow you to participate in the French social security system. Unemployment assistance, healthcare, and family allowances are among the benefits in this system.

Permanent residency

The first step is obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit (Carte de séjour temporaire). The validity is for one year.  This residence permit is issued based on the purpose it will be used for- studies or employment.

After five years in France, you will be eligible to apply for a permanent residence card (carte de residence). A permanent residence visa in France permits you to live, work, and study in the country indefinitely, but it must be renewed every ten years.  To apply for permanent residency in France, you must first schedule an appointment with your local prefecture, who will provide guidance on the necessary paperwork to be completed.

Migrate to Australia

Migrate to Australia

As a developed country with a positive reputation for accepting migrants, a robust economy, numerous well-paid jobs, a modern lifestyle, and a high standard of living, Australia is often regarded as one of the finest places to live in the world. Several Australian cities appear in annual lists of the best cities to live globally, and Melbourne has been at the top of the rankings for several years.

The Australian economy is strong, and as a result, the Australian dollar is one of the world’s strongest and safest currencies. Compared to other countries, Australia’s minimum wage is high, which is good news for those looking for an overseas career.

Permanent residency in Australia

Australia offers a five-year Permanent Residency (PR) visa that allows you to work and live anywhere in the country. With a PR visa, you and your family can live here. After three years of living on a PR visa, you can apply for citizenship.

Advantages of having a PR visa

  • You have complete freedom to reside and travel across Australia.
  • You are eligible to continue your education and may be eligible for certain educational loans.
  • After two years as a PR visa holder, you can make use of Social Security benefits.

  Check your eligibility

To migrate to Australia, there are various visa sub-categories you can apply. The Australian government offers two major streams for the PR visa:

  • Skilled Stream
  • Family Stream

Skilled stream

Australia is open to welcoming skilled immigrants because they bring a higher level of education, are more likely to find suitable employment, and contribute to the economy. Employee-sponsored migrants are more likely to benefit the economy.

Most persons wish to migrate to Australia as skilled workers, and they do so through the Skilled Migration Program.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Experience in a nominated occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List
  • Skill assessment report by a designated authority for that occupation
  • Age under 45 years
  • Meet basic requirements of the General Skilled Migration program
  • Score at least 65 on the points test
  • Meet health and character requirements

Migrating to Australia under any of these visas under the Skilled migration program will lead to permanent residency in Australia after a few years of stay.

Family stream

You can move to Australia under the family stream if a close relative is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The family stream covers spouses/partners, dependent children, parents of citizens, and permanent residents of Australia. It also permits other family members to relocate to Australia to be with their families, such as elderly and dependent relatives, caregivers, and others.

Study in Australia

Australia has many reputed universities and institutions that rank among the top universities in the world. The Subclass 500 student visa allows you to study in Australia, bring your family with you, and apply online in or outside of Australia. Other benefits include the ability to move freely within and beyond the country. While studying for your degree, you can also work for up to 40 hours.

This visa is valid for five years, and you can also apply for an extension.

Work in Australia

Australia offers numerous work visa options for those who wish to work here. The visas are based on your skills or the type of employment you are looking for – permanent or temporary.

Those who come to work here have fundamental rights, and you, like other local employees, are covered by the same workplace protection rights. The standard of living and employee wages are high by global standards, and you can get free healthcare and other social benefits.
