What is the penalty for overstaying your UAE Visa?

The UAE is home to millions of expatriates from all over the world. It also receives a huge number of international visitors from different countries of the world. So what is common between these expatriates and the visitors? All of them arrive in the UAE on a Visa.

Regardless of your Visa type-Tourist, Business or Resident Visa, it is important that you abide by the rules of the UAE. It is also equally important that you do not overstay your Visa duration in the UAE.

In the unforeseen circumstance that you are forced to stay for longer than what is allowed, you must be aware of the penalty that you need to pay.

The UAE allows you to stay for up to 10 days in the country after your Visa expires. So, if you leave the UAE within these 10 days, you do not need to pay any fine.

Once these 10 days are over, you will start to incur fines. These fines will increase gradually, the longer you overstay in the UAE.

If you are on a Tourist or Visitor Visa, you will have to pay a fine of Dh 200 on the first day of your overstay. For every additional day that you overstay, after the grace period is over, you will need to pay Dh 100 per day. You will also need to pay a service fee of Dh 100 at the airport or the immigration office at the time of exiting the country.

Hence, for overstaying your Tourist or Visitor Visa, your fine is calculated as under:

Dh 200 ( for the first day) + (Dh 100* consequent days of overstay)+Dh 100= Total fine for overstaying

If you are on a Resident Visa, you get a grace period of 30 days. You may either exit the UAE or renew your expired Resident Visa. During these 30 days, you will not incur any fine. However, once the 30-day grace period is over, you will be fined Dh 125 on the first day. For every consecutive day of overstay, you will be fined Dh 25 per day.

If you have overstayed your Resident Visa for more than six months, your fine increases to Dh 50 per day after six months. If you have overstayed for a year, the daily fine is Dh 100 per day.

What should you do if your Visa is about to expire?

If you are on a Visitor Visa and your Visa is about to expire, you should either exit the country or apply for an extension. All Tourist and Visitor Visas can be extended for up to 30 days twice. You do not need to exit the country to apply for the extension.

Applying for a renewal for the second time before the first visa expires will cost Dh 600 for each renewal.

Canada increases settlement funds requirement for 2020

Canadian Visa

You will now need to show more funds to qualify for a Canada Permanent Residency. Candidates applying under the Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Federal Skilled Worker Program need to show settlement funds when applying for Canadian PR.

Settlement funds refer to a certain amount of savings that you must have to take care of yourself and your family in Canada.

The settlement funds requirement for the FSWP and the FSTC categories have been increased for 2020.

When applying under the Canadian Experience Class, you do not need to show settlement funds.

The minimum amount that you need to show when applying for a Canadian PR depends on your family size.

You can include the following family members when applying for a Canadian PR:

  • The principal applicant
  • The spouse or partner
  • Their dependent children
  • The dependent children of the spouse

Married applicants must include their spouse and dependent children in their PR Visa application. They must include them even if they are already Permanent Residents or citizens of Canada. Even if they are not accompanying the principal applicant to Canada, they must be included in the PR Visa application.

Here is the table of settlement funds needed for 2020:

No. of family members  Funds requirement (in CAD)
1  $12,960
2  $16,135
3  $19,836
4  $24,083
5  $27,315
6  $30,806
7  $34,299
Each additional family member  $3,492

Canada revises the settlement fund requirement every year. Even though the difference may be nominal, it is still vital to maintain eligibility for Canadian Permanent Residence.

Which are the best three PNPs for Canada PR in 2020?

Canada aspirants are quite familiar with the Provincial Nominee Programs. Getting a provincial nomination can put you on the fast track to a Canadian Permanent Residency.

There are almost eighty different pathways to Canadian PR. The Provincial Nominee Programs allow provinces in Canada to select candidates that meet their eligibility requirements and labour needs.

Many PNPs in Canada are aligned with the Federal Express Entry Program. A successful provincial nomination gets a candidate an additional 600 points on their CRS score. This multiplies the chances of getting an ITA for Canadian Permanent Residency.

There are more than 400,000 jobs vacant in Canada. The country has, hence, increased the PNP intake target to 67,800 in 2020.

Which are the best PNPs for Canada PR in 2020?

1. Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)

There are more than 200 occupations available under this PNP. Aspiring immigrants who are not scoring enough points to qualify through the Federal Express Entry Program may find it easier to succeed through this PNP.

The eligibility requirements for this PNP are:

  • You should have at least one year of work experience in any one occupation on the in-demand occupation list of Saskatchewan
  • You should have completed at least post-secondary level education
  • You should be proficient in either English or French

2. Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

Toronto in Ontario is a major tech hub in Canada and offers several job opportunities in the tech sector. The OINP offers several categories through which skilled workers and business owners can migrate to Canada. The most popular among these categories is the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

To be eligible under the Human Capital Priorities Stream, you should have a CRS score of over 400. Candidates who are proficient in French can apply for a provincial nomination through the French-speaking Skilled Worker Stream. Candidates who have work experience working in an eligible trade occupation in Ontario can apply under the Skilled Trades Stream.

3. Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program offers several options to skilled workers, entrepreneurs and international graduates to settle in Canada.

The Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry is aligned with the Federal Express Entry Program. There are two categories under this program-Category A and Category B. Category A is for candidates who have an offer of employment from Nova Scotia. Category B is for candidates who have relevant work experience in an in-demand occupation in the province.
