Staying out of the UAE for 6 months could get your Work Visa cancelled

uae

uae

You are on a Work Visa in the UAE. However, you need to travel out of the country due to an emergency. What happens to your Work Visa?

Well, your employer may cancel your Work Visa is you stay out of the UAE for more than 6 months.

For those, who have resigned and served their notice period, your employer can cancel your Work Visa without you travelling back to the UAE. However, you should have signed the Work Permit cancellation document before you moved out of the UAE.

An employer needs to approach the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to cancel your Work Visa. They then need to get in touch with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs to get your Residence Permit revoked.

An employer needs to have a signed Work Permit cancellation document from the employee before he can apply to get the Work Visa cancelled at MOHRE. The document should also state that the employee has received his due remuneration and also the benefits at the end-of-service.

However, if an employee has been absent from the UAE for more than 6 months, then the employer may cancel the Work Visa of the employee. The employer would need to get a report from the GDRFA that the employee has been out of the UAE for more than 6 months. With that, he can then submit a Work Permit cancellation application, as per The Khaleej Times.

If, however, the employee has not been out of the UAE for 6 months, he can travel back to the UAE with his current residence visa. He can then submit his original passport to the employer to cancel his Residency Visa.

Australia will soon review its migration program

The Australian Govt. has announced that it will soon review the migration program of Australia. The Joint Migration Committee of the Federal Parliament will head the upcoming review.

The Committee generally looks at Australian detention centres & visa laws. However, the new review will also focus on population growth pressures and infrastructure problems.

The move has come after Infrastructure Australia released a report. The report underlined the need for Australia to invest in infrastructure projects worth at least $200 billion every 5 years. That was the only way for the country to cope up with the rapid population surge.

The report by Infrastructure Australia also stated that high investment is required for Australia to ensure roads and public transport. To improve the quality of life and increase economic productivity, it is important to provide water, electricity and health services. It is also important to build more schools and provide better education.

Scott Morrison, Prime Minister, said that the report used data before the 2019-20 budget. Infrastructure projects worth $23 billion have been announced in the latest budget, as per 7News. 160 of these announced projects will focus on reducing the congesting in the major cities in Australia.

Over the next 10 years, the Australian Govt. has committed to invest more than $100 billion in infrastructure.

Know about the International Student Entrepreneur Pilot of Manitoba

manitoba

manitoba

Founded in 1999, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has welcomed more than 130,000 migrants to Canada over these 20 years. However, the population in the province is declining as Manitobans are having fewer children than before. As a result, more people are leaving the workforce compared to the ones entering it.

Manitoba has now doubled its efforts to attract more migrants to address the population decline and labour crunch.

In December 2018, the MPNP launched the “International Student Entrepreneur Pilot”. The ISEP is a 2-year pilot which is a hybrid between the Business Investor Stream and the International Graduate sub-category. The pilot aims to attract talented young entrepreneurs to Manitoba to meet the industry needs of the province.

How is the ISEP different from other programs?

Firstly, the program allows applicants to “work for themselves. International students who do not have a job offer in Canada or any previous work experience can be self-employed under this program.

Secondly, a job offer is not necessary to apply for this program. You will need to have a confirmed job offer to apply for most other programs for a provincial nomination. But not for the ISEP.

Third and most important is that it does not have any minimum investment requirement. There is no minimum net worth requirement too. To apply under other Entrepreneur Programs you need to meet the minimum investment and net worth criteria.

The ISEP, thus, has created a pathway for Permanent Residence for international students who may otherwise not have qualified.

The ISEP is an excellent program for international students who have pursued their higher studies from Manitoba. Such students can start their venture in the province and use the ISEP as a route to Canadian PR, as per CIC News.

How can you qualify for the ISEP?

You can qualify for the ISEP if:

  • You are between 21 and 35 years of age
  • You have a language proficiency score of at least CLB 7
  • You have completed at least a post-secondary course of 2 years from Manitoba
  • You have a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit at the time of applying. You may also apply if you have a Work Permit.
  • You have lived in Manitoba continuously after completing your studies. You should also intend to live in Manitoba permanently in the long run.
  • You should meet the funds’ criteria as per the Low Income Cut-Off of Canada
  • You have to submit a feasible business proposal as per the MPNP criteria
  • You should be willing to actively manage your business for at least 6 months

UAE citizens are now eligible to travel visa-free to South Africa. The visa-waiver applies to all UAE passport holders including ordinary, diplomatic, mission and special passports.

As per the Dept. of Home Affairs, South Africa, the UAE has been recently added to the visa-waiver list. Effective from 15th August, UAE citizens can now travel visa-free to South Africa. UAE citizens going to South Africa will be allowed to stay in the country without a visa for up to 90 days.

Ahmad Sari Al Mazrouei is the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE. He says that the inclusion of the UAE in the visa waiver list of South Africa depicts the strong ties between both the countries. It also highlights the prominent global status that the UAE has achieved. He also believes that the visa waiver will also open up new horizons for UAE citizens, as quoted by the Gulf News.

Saskatchewan invites 150 candidates in the latest draw

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan conducted the latest invitation round on 15th August. 150 invitations were issued by the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program to Occupations In-demand and  EE candidates.

SINP issued 45 invitations under its Express Entry stream. 105 invitations were issued under the SINP Occupations In-demand sub-category.

The cut-off score in the 15th August draw was 78 points.

To rank candidates under the EE and Occupations In-demand sub-categories, the SINP uses a unique points grid. Candidates are given a score out of a total of 100 points. A candidate’s score is based on factors like:

  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Language Skills
  • Connection to Saskatchewan

The SINP invites the highest-ranked candidates in both categories for a provincial nomination in regular pool draws.

The SINP EE Sub-stream is linked to the Federal Express Entry Program. You do not need to have a job offer from Saskatchewan to apply under this category. However, it is mandatory for applicants to have work experience in any of the 19 In-demand occupations in Saskatchewan.

In 2019, the SINP has invited 1,789 candidates under the Occupations In-Demand category so far. The EE sub-stream has so far issued 1,315 invitations in 2019, as per CIC News.

The number of Invites issued in the 15th August draw was lesser in comparison to the previous draw. The previous invitation round happened on 24th July and issued 381 invites for a provincial nomination.

US Green Card: Tech companies dominate the application list

usa green card

usa green card

There are just two Indian companies featuring in the list of US Employer Green Card applications- TCS and Infosys.

Tech giants like Facebook, Google, Cognizant, Cisco and Amazon have filed more Green Card applications than other tech companies. This has been revealed by recent data from the US Dept. of Labour. The Dept. of Labour of the US follows the calendar year from October to September.

The highest number of Green Card applications has been filed by Amazon amongst all other tech companies. The tech giant has filed 1,500 Employer Green Card applications.

Following Amazon is Cognizant which has filed 1,300 applications. Headquartered in the US, Cognizant has one of the largest employee bases in India.

Cisco stands on the 3rd spot with 1,058 Green Card applications. On the 4th spot is TCS with 1,009 Green Card applications.

Infosys has filed 519 Green Card applications placing it on the 7th spot.

Here are the number of Green Card applications by tech firms:

Name of the Company  No. of Green Card applications
Amazon  1,590
Cognizant  1,324
Cisco  1,058
TCS  1,009
Google  874
Facebook  562
Infosys  519
Microsoft  433
Apple  400
Deloitte  387

How many of the above Green Card applications convert into Permanent Residence is yet to be seen.

The US is facing a shortage of skilled professionals, as per NASSCOM. The companies in the US, hence, are hiring from where they can find the maximum-India.

The H1B Visa is valid for a period of 3 years. It can be further extended for another 3 years. People who have been approved for a US Green Card can get the H1B Visa extended even further. That is why most people apply for a US Green Card when the validity of their H1B Visas are nearing expiry.

Expenses for the H1B Visa have to be borne by the company in the US. However, that is not the case with Green Card applications, as per The Economic Times.

US companies often file an I-40 or the Immigrant Petition for Alien Workers to retain highly valued or high-skilled employees.

At present, the wait time for a Green Card for Indians can exceed 8 years. The newly introduced Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act will benefit more than 300,000 Indians living in the US.

India can avail visa-free travel to Thailand by the year-end

thailand

thailand

India and China are a major source of tourists for Thailand. Hence to enhance the tourism industry in the country, Thailand is planning to introduce visa-free travel for both countries.

India is currently eligible for the visa-on-arrival facility in Thailand. The country has also waived off the visa fee for Indians till October 2019.

Minister of Tourism, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, announced that India and China would be able to avail visa-free travel by the end of this year. Travellers from India and China would be able to enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 14 days.

The new visa change could come into effect as early as 1st November 2019. It is expected to make a major impact on the tourism industry of Thailand.

Thailand has set a tourism revenue target of TBH 3.4 trillion including domestic tourism this year. International tourists are expected to make up almost TBH 2.2 trillion in revenue. Thailand expects to hit more than 40.5 million in tourist arrivals.

The Minister of Tourism expects the number of Chinese tourists to reach at least 11 million this year.

1.5 million Indians travelled to Thailand in 2018. This put India at the 6th place of the largest source countries for tourism in Thailand, as per The Times of India. There was an impressive 27% increase in the number of tourists to Thailand in 2018 as compared to the previous year.

US stops visa-free travel for foreigners who visited N Korea

usa

usa

Starting 6th August 2019, the US has stopped visa-free entry services to all foreigners who have visited North Korea. Foreigners who have visited North Korea in the last 8 years would be excluded from visa-free travel.

The US has a visa-waiver program with 38 countries in the world which makes them eligible for visa-free entry to the US. The visa-waiver program includes countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore and France. The citizens of these 38 countries can avail visa-free travel in the US for up to 90 days.

People who have visited North Korea since 1st March 2011 are excluded from visa-free travel, as per the website of the US Customs & Border Protection. To travel to the US, such people would now need to apply for either a Tourist or a Business Visa, as per Al Jazeera.

Apart from North Korea, there are 7 more countries on the exclusion list. These include Libya, Somalia and Syria.

The new visa reform will affect many people from visa-free countries who have travelled to North Korea in the past.

The new rule will dampen President Moon Jae-in of South Korea’s hopes of promoting cross-border tourism with North Korea. It is yet to be seen how the new rule will affect business leaders like Lee Jae-Yong, VP of Samsung Electronics. Jae-Yong was part of a Jae-in’s delegation that travelled to North Korea for the Pyongyang summit.

US citizens are banned from travelling to North Korea since 2017. The ban was enforced after the detention of an American student in Pyongyang in North Korea. The country released the student while in a coma and he died a few days after the incident.
